To determine whether 4 to 12 weeks of treatment with atorvastatin 80 mg/day + niacin ER 2 g/day compared to low dose atorvastatin 10 mg/day will result in a difference in the following endpoints: (1) Composite score of plaque inflammation/stability gene expression as assayed by RNA Taqman analysis (referred to as Hot/Cold RNA biomarker panel); (2) Plaque Instability Protein Composite Score; (3) Cholesterol content.
