Extrait

In this study it should be tested whether an infusion of L-arginine starting at the beginning of surgery and lasting 24 hours would improve local blood flow of patients receiving peripheral bypass surgery.

Critère d'inclusion

  • In general, ischemia and reperfusion are main causes for tissue damage and consequently for organ damage after surgery. Particularily, patients suffering from a peripheral occlusive disease show a diminished capacity to maintain microcirculation. Peripheral bypass surgery is one option to resue critical limbs from amputation. Therefore, this group of patients most likely would benefit from an early improvement of local blood flow possibly provided through administration of L-arginine
