A Study of Valacyclovir Hydrochloride in the Prevention of Life-Threatening Cytomegalovirus Disease in HIV-Infected Patients PRIMARY: To evaluate the efficacy of valacyclovir hydrochloride (BW 256U87) in the prevention of cytomegalovirus (CMV) end-organ disease in HIV/CMV co-infected patients with CD4+ lymphocytes < 100 cells/mm3. To assess the impact of BW 256U87, high-dose oral acyclovir and low-dose oral acyclovir on survival. SECONDARY: To evaluate the effect of BW 256U87 on quality of life, the safety of the drug administered concurrently with standard antiretroviral agents and other essential therapies for the treatment and prevention of opportunistic diseases, and the efficacy of BW 256U87 in suppressing activation of other herpesviruses. To evaluate serologic and virologic risk factors for the development of CMV disease, including assessment of HIV activation, and the risk of developing drug-resistant CMV, HSV, and VZV. Gastrointestinal absorption of acyclovir is not high enough to prevent CMV disease in patients with advanced HIV disease, although there is evidence that high doses of the drug may extend survival. Valacyclovir, a prodrug that is rapidly converted to acyclovir after oral administration, has a higher absorption rate and may therefore provide inhibitory activity against CMV.

Repinotan in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke The purpose of this trial is to evaluate Repinotan HCl in patients with acute ischemic stroke. At study entry patients will be randomized to Repinotan HCl or placebo in a 1:1 ratio. The total treatment period wil be 72 hours.

Open Label Study of 908/RTV in Combination With Other PIs for the Treatment of Multi PI-Experienced HIV Subjects For HIV-infected individuals with highly resistant viruses, higher drug levels may be required to block the virus. This study investigates that concept by comparing the efficacy of standard fosamprenavir/ritonavir to an increased dose of boosted fosamprenavir and to a combination of fosamprenavir (increased dose)/lopinavir/ritonavir.

Study The Effects Of Different Doses Of UK-369,003 In Men With Overactive Bladder This is a 12 week study in which different doses of UK-369,003 will be administered to patients with a diagnosis of overactive bladder. CP-675,206 Versus Either Dacarbazine Or Temozolomide In Patients Without Prior Therapy This is a Phase 3, multi-national, open-label, 2-arm randomized study in patients with surgically incurable metastatic melanoma who have received no prior chemotherapy, or biochemotherapy for the treatment of metastatic disease. The primary objective of this trial is to compare overall survival for patients with advanced melanoma who are randomized to receive CP-675,206 with that of patients who are randomized to receive either dacarbazine or temozolomide (investigator choice)
